About
Alyssa Rae Thomas is a filmmaker and choreographer. Born and raised in metro-Detroit, she currently holds a double BA in Film, TV, & Media and Art History from the University of Michigan, where she was also the recipient of the 2022-23 John H. and Patricia W. Mitchell Scholarship. She has written and directed several short films as well as choreographed for both the screen and the stage. Her work often focuses around issues of body image, mental health, and gender nonconformity.
She is currently a junior editor and videographer for the Detroit branch of Weber Shandwick, and serves on the programming board for the New Generation Filmmakers Forum based in Chicago, IL. She is also a co-producer for the short film When Life Gives You A Lawnmower, in production fall of 2024.
